Today Environmental Initiatives awarded the Kawe Gidaa Naanaagadawendaamin Manoomin (First We Should Consider Wild Rice) an Honorable Mention for local sustainability! We are a large collaborative project among tribes, intertribal treaty organizations, and University of Minnesota faculty, staff, and students. The project prioritizes tribal research needs and tribal perspectives to support wild rice conservation and restoration across Minnesota and the western Great Lakes. Thanks to all of the partners on the team, the University of Minnesota’s Grand Challenge program, the Institute on the Environment, and of course, Environmental Initiatives for this honor.
